The Studio

Studio Nato is dedicated to bringing people together in thoughtfully designed spaces that incite wonder and encourage interaction with the built environment. Our work philosophy is rooted in a profound respect for architectural heritage. While we are interested in preserving existing structures, we also use honest materials and sustainable practices where possible as we work in collaborative relationships with talented artisans and craftspeople. The projects we undertake embody a harmonious balance between modern and traditional; weaving old and new but always prioritizing quality, form, material and intrigue.

Nathan Cuttle

Nathan was born in Anchorage, Alaska where a propensity for building and transforming spaces was cultivated within him at an early age as the son of a general contractor. His aptitude as a designer is informed by a blended educational background as he earned his first degree in business. He later returned to school to pursue interior design at Parsons where heโ€™s also held tenure as both instructor and critic. His diverse professional experience ranges from working as a field operations manager in masonry in Colorado to leading his own construction company in Atlanta. Nathan has worked for design agencies on projects across the country and internationally.

He approaches spatial planning with an intuitive understanding of ritualistic behaviour and meticulous site study; it is with this perspicacity of people and space that he considers circulation, materiality, and form in conceptual design. Nathan always places the client at the forefront of the project and gives special attention to the psychology of space to ensure efficiency, functionality and comfort. Given his applied knowledge of construction and history in trades management, he emphasizes hand craftsmanship and celebrates tradition when building for wellness, pleasure and longevity.

Testimonials

"It's such a rarity to find someone in the field with Nathan's cross disciplinary background in construction, furniture & interior design, and architecture. Not only does this prove his strengths in knowledge and innovation, but it also makes him entirely accessible and pleasurable to work with. Having had the fortune to work with Nathan, I can easily attest to his invaluable insight into collaboration, design, and construction."

"Nathan is a wildly talented designer and has a way of gently steering a project to a level beyond what you originally consider possible. Nathan designs for the pragmatic and efficient use of the space and manages to weave this into an overall aesthetic that is lovely and reflects the personality of his client. Nathan designed a kitchen and bath for us and I am grateful for his energy and creative contribution to our house every time I come home! He helped us save a 1920's cottage is utter disrepair, honored its old bones, and graced it with a more youthful and modern energy."

"Nathan helped us with layout options, lighting design, and overall styling ideas for our bathroom/walk-in closet remodel. He was very professional and knowledgeable, and gave us excellent advice. Using his expertise really made us feel confident in the decisions we were making, knowing that the outcome would be something that we would love. He's got a great eye, and knows what works and what doesn't."

"Nathan was a dream to work with. He did an excellent job of taking our "vision" and turning it into a concrete design. He kept to our budget. He did an excellent job of researching products and materials, providing us with edited options to choose from. He is a great communicator and was always prompt for meetings. He made us feel as though this project was unique and special to us - nothing cookie cutter about it. We could not have asked for a better experience! The job was to renovate our kitchen and living area. It was such a success that we have hired him to design our master bath."
